Archived Assets and Groups

Archiving helps you keep your Asset Inventory organized by removing inactive or irrelevant items from active views, while still retaining historical context. Both assets and asset groups can be archived and later unarchived if needed.

Archiving Assets

When you archive an asset:

  • The asset is moved from the asset views (like Asset Inventory) into the Archived then Assets tab.
  • The asset becomes read-only; no actions can be performed on it (assignment, editing, adding to groups).
  • If the asset appears in active groups, it will remain visible but cannot be acted on.

Steps to Archive an Asset

  • Navigate to Assets then All assets (or the relevant asset view, e.g., Domains, Network).
  • Find the asset you want to archive and click the menu.
  • Select Archive.
  • In the confirmation modal, choose a reason:
    • Stopped Existing
    • False Detection
    • Irrelevant
    • Duplicate
    • Others
  • Optionally, add comments for context.
  • Click Archive.

The asset will now appear under Archived then Assets.

Unarchiving Assets

  • Navigate to Archived then Assets.
  • Locate the asset and open the menu.
  • Select Unarchive.

The asset will return to the appropriate active asset views.

Archiving Asset Groups

When you archive an asset group:

  • The group moves to Archived then Asset groups.
  • The group becomes read-only; no actions can be performed inside it except unarchiving.
  • Assets inside the group become read-only within the archived asset group.
  • Assets still remain available elsewhere if:
    • They exist in another active group, or
    • They are individually assigned to programs.
  • If the asset itself is archived, it is unavailable in all contexts, even if part of active groups.

Steps to Archive a Group

  • Navigate to Assets then groups.
  • Find the group you want to archive.
  • Open the menu and select Archive group.
  • Confirm in the modal.

The group will now appear under Archived then Asset groups.

Unarchiving Asset Groups

  • Navigate to Archived then Asset Groups.
  • Locate the group and open the menu.
  • Select Unarchive.

The group will return to the active Asset group list.

Best Practices for Archiving

  • Always provide a reason when archiving assets for clearer audit trails.
  • Unarchive only when necessary to avoid cluttering active views with irrelevant assets.
  • Archive asset groups when they are no longer in use but keep assets active elsewhere to maintain coverage.
